Discuss your level of anxiety with your sedation dentist in Ponte Vedra Beach. When you think of the medicine of pain relief, dentistry should be one of the fields that pop up you’re your head first. It’s always been a dentist’s mission to provide a comfortable way for patients to receive dental care, especially if their dental phobics or need extensive dental work completed.

Many times, patients skip their semiannual dental appointments out of fear. Little do they know, this bad habit puts themselves in a worse predicament than before. This cycle of fear and neglected dental care is unfortunate for patient smiles. That’s why your dentist in Ponte Vedra Beach is here to provide the dental services every patient needs—even the one’s initially afraid to visit our office. If your last dental appointment is way past due, read more on how our sedation dentistry may be able to help you.

Dental Anxiety is Real and More Common than You May Think

Dental anxiety is one of the most common problems that all health professionals see. In fact, it made America’s top 10 phobia list! Despite our efforts to debunk the cliché, “dentists are the bad guy” stereotype, there are still some patients that struggle with dental phobia. Past unfortunate experiences don’t always cause dental phobia either. Dental fear could be a snowball of fear of being trapped, getting an injection, or having your personal space invaded. That’s why we think it’s so important to make sure that every patient that visits Ponte Vedra Complete Dentistry has a positive dental experience that may influence future appointments.

By having an open conversation with your dentist in Ponte Vedra Beach about your dental fears, our office will be able to recommend the best form of sedation that we offer. This way, you can receive the dental work that your smile desperately needs in a relaxed state. This is especially important if you are needing to receive a lot of dental work or oral surgery.

Sedation Offered by Ponte Vedra Complete Dentistry

If you have a history of canceling appointments, you could be severely affecting your health. Our experts are sedation dentists that are ready to help you overcome your dental fears. With our comprehensive sedation dentistry options, you can finally get the dental care you need whether it be dental implants, extractions, or even root canal therapy.

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

Which sounds more inviting? Laughing gas or a dental drill? Nitrous Oxide is otherwise known as laughing gas. If you have mild dental anxiety, discuss nitrous oxide with your dentist. Dr. Harth or Dr. Townsend can safely monitor the amount of gas you’ll inhale during your appointment. Besides working quickly, it wears off quickly as well. Laughing gas is so light and invasive that you’re able to continue the rest of your busy day uninterrupted as soon as the sedative wears off.

Oral Sedation

Although this sedative is a bit stronger than laughing gas, it’s not strong enough to leave you unconscious for extended periods of time. Either of our dentists will administer a monitored amount of medication to help you feel a little drowsy. In some cases, patients can even fall asleep for the whole dental visit. After the sedative has worn off, patients typically will have a numb mouth but still be alert, responding as normal.
